BACKGROUND

Hip Hop culture emerged in the 1970s in the Bronx, New York. It took root in a difficult economic and social context for black and Hispanic ghettos who found new forms of expression through music, dance and graphics.

50 years after the first official block party in 1973, Hip Hop has democratized, evolved, and expanded to become the leading artistic movement that has greatly influenced the international cultural and media landscape.
